Teknoblog.com – We’ve heard that Microsoft is planning to use GPU acceleration in Windows 7, but it looks like this will be included in the upcoming OS with a system called WARP to allow DirectX 10 acceleration using a simple old CPU.
Microsoft’s reason for wanting to use such a method is to avoid the problems with the “Vista-compatible” standards that have plagued it before. Some systems were affixed with the “Vista compatible” logo, meaning they were capable of running Vista, but unfortunately some of these systems were unable to run Vista.
According to Microsoft, WARP (Windows Advanced Rasterization Program) will be able to run even on an 800 MHz CPU. Of course, it will perform better on multi-core processors with SSE 4.1 support. To test this new system, Microsoft tested Crysis benchmarks on a system. According to the test results, a Core i7-based PC reached a frame rate of 7.36 fps at 800×600 resolution. These values are better than Intel’s current integrated graphics cards…
