“malware” alert from Google

Google has announced that it will shortly use its search engine to counter the malware discovered by the company.

Security engineer Damian Menscher, who made a statement on Google’s blog, said that “databases announced that they detected unusual traffic while performing a routine maintenance on one of them. After speaking with security experts at several companies sending the data traffic, Menscher concluded that the computers causing the traffic were “affected by a peculiar malware stream.”

An official on behalf of Google stated that “they estimate that more than a million computers have been infected by the malware, the malware was triggered by users downloading fake anti-virus software on the internet.”

The detected software causes the affected computers to send traffic to Google using intermediary servers (proxies). Google plans to send a warning to these users that they “need to update their anti-virus software.”

Menscher said that users whose computer is infected by malware will display a warning on the Google Search results screen that “your computer appears to be infected”.
